On the 7th and 8th April as the sun was shining, two Garway players competed in their first AC competition, at the Cheltenham Easter Handicap Tournament. With 22 competitors, Brent & Simon had both been given a handicap of 11 and were playing against opponents of ranging ability (some playing of minus figures!).

Perhaps luckily both players were drawn in different ‘blocks’ and day one saw them both play 3 games, with them both winning all three! Some on the time limit (furthest ahead at the time limit) and others an outright win.
This resulted in both going through to the knockout rounds on the Saturday. Again they avoided being drawn against each other in their quarter finals, both fought to the end and managed to be Ahead of their opponents by the end of the time, resulting in them progressing to the semi-finals.
Unfortunately with both playing very experienced AC players and witnessing some really fantastic long shots and some breaks that saw their competitors going through 7+ hoops, they were unable to get to the finals.
It resulted in them sharing 3rd and 4th in the competition. A brilliant result for their first AC competition – needless to say their handicaps have been reduced!
