First Away Success for the Federation Team

 Ina first for the Club, a team representing Garway Croquet Club travelled away from home to play in the South West Federation League. The destination was Swindon, where the local club have a site with three full size lawns and a further two planned.

Due to the home side’s difficulty in raising a full side, the match was played 3-a-side with a doubles game and one singles in the morning and three singles games in the afternoon.

The Team comprised Brent Watkins, Mark Oldale and Sarah Hayes. Sarah was introduced to the Club through the late-lamented Brian Shorney and as well providing coaching support through the Cheltenham connection was keen to join the Club and help out whenever necessary.

We were welcomed with excellent hospitality by our hosts, to which we responded by winning 3-2; Mark and Sarah won their doubles game in the morning and Brent and Mark won their singles games in the afternoon.

So success just keeps coming and the Federation side sit top of their Group and look favourites to win it.
