Success in South West Federation matches just keeps on coming to Garway Croquet Club.Following on from success in their maiden match home to Broadwas (near Worcester), the Federation League team achieved another home victory over highly-fancied Kington Langley (near Chippenham) on Saturday 1st June 2024. The team, captained by Simon Collinson, comprised Simon, Brent Watkins, Norman Hicks and Mark Oldale.
In the morning, Norman and Simon lost their doubles game in a tight affair by a single hoop and Brent also suffered defeat. But success by Mark in his singles held hope of an afternoon recovery. And so it proved with all four players winning their singles games to register a team victory of 5 - 2 over their competitors. Garway currently sit pretty atop their league with two wins out of two.
As if this was not enough, the Intermediate League side played their first match of the season on Wednesday 5th June 2024 at home to Bath Croquet Club. Captained by Brent Watkins and also starring Simon, Andrew Bailey and Bryan Gidley, the team racked up an impressive 6 - 1 victory with only Bryan losing out in his afternoon singles. Never did the post-match beers taste so sweet.
It’s away travel for the next game for the Federation side visiting Swindon on the 22nd June. The Intermediate side will be at home on the 10th July against Bristol.
